Cold Air, Party Lights

Cold air intake! Caught it on fire sale on Facebook. Granted, it's probably an interim until I fabricate a dual snorkel stock style air cleaner. That's a 4" filter which is hilariously tall. I don't think it quite hits the hood, but it's terribly close.

Here's the front view:

Those funnels are 4" on the back which required a LOT of cutting of the headlight bucket and mounting plate, so they're unusable for headlights now. I do have plenty of spares just in case. The driver side fits easily but somewhat blocks the fuse panel. The passenger side was a major battle with the evap canister. It'd be smart to relocate the canister somewhere. Probably fairly easy to tuck it back under the fender, too.

All of the parts are generic fit Spectre. The tubes are actually quite nice, but now sure how they'll work with the oval air cleaner snouts.

In other news, Radio Shack has a ton of discounts since they're going out of business. Again. Including LED strips for cheap. And I needed a better trunk light. So a bit of time fabricating a little bracket that fit where the stock light mounted and some double sided tape....

Almost too easy. The bracket did take a couple of tries, but it's just 18ga sheet.

I destroyed the lockup timer when trying to reprogram it. The replacement went in just fine and worked on the first try. So now I have lockup! It ends up hunting a bit in town - it'd be nice to prevent lockup <50mph - but works OK. It's almost like a 6th gear.

Temps kept climbing to about 210 one day when it was ~80 degrees out with the A/C running. So bit the bullet and got the massive Be Cool OE Fit radiator. It's very pretty and fits really well. Also got the 4 row top place from US Auto Supply, which came quickly, just didn't include the core support brackets that they said it would. Also switched to a constant pressure radiator cap instead of a partial pressure. Still cruises at about 190 in most situations, but haven't seen it over 200 yet. We'll see what happens when summer really hits.

Then I got under the car to do some cleanup and check for leaks.

Good news: No more oil leaks from the front seal or oil pan!

OK News: PS outlet was leaking, but it was just a bit loose. Oil adapter fittings were a bit gunky, but can't tell where it's coming from.

Bad news: Several of the tranny cooler line fittings are weeping - after shutdown (!!) - quite a bit. That's what I get for trying to save a few bucks by using the off-brand parts for the "non-critical" hoses. One needed to be re-made longer for the new radiator anyway.

Really bad news: The hydroboost puked ~1 cup of PS fluid. No idea where exactly it came from, or when, or how. Everything is tight. One of the fittings is a bit gunky, implying a slow leak, but no idea what's going on. Of course it's pretty important that this thing works right.

Errata:

Find and fix hydroboost leak.

Drill a "Hydroboost" hole in the brake pedal. hah!

Seriously, what does it take to get a PS pump to stop whining? (I think this is actually done!)

LED rear lights? Rear relays?

Slight clicking from passenger side when rolling ???

Finish whatever lead work and sanding I'm going to do

Paint!
