Exhaust
The stock exhaust system was 2.25" single with manifolds. During the first resto, we did the quick change to a dual exhaust and the shop's generic turbo mufflers on 2.5" pipes. This served me well, although there was lots of drone at highway cruise. The block-off for the passenger side manifold is hilarious, and when combined with the intake exhaust crossover, it's amazing that any exhaust makes it out the back!
The current setup uses Smitty's new headers (ARH) which go to a 3" slip connector. After that is Torque Tech setup with 2.5" throughout and an H-pipe Pypes 2.5" x-pipe kit. Mufflers are DynoMax 20" case.
The passenger header hangs about an inch below the crossmember, so it has turned into a skid plate.
There's some comments on ROP that an x-pipe changes the sound dramatically. I expect it smooths out the roughness, so it sounds more like the steady rumble of modern cars, rather than the side-to-side stereo effect of old exhaust. Arguments go both ways on which is best for performance. H is super-simple to install and can be done after the fact, so that's the plan.
