Test run 3

Got a canopy to hide from the Texas sun and ran the engine this weekend with the new carb.

Basically the same results - will not idle under 1,000 but smooths out if partially choked. So there's gotta be a vacuum leak, and the only place left is the intake valley. A gander with a bore scope showed the gasket looking OK, so hopefully something will be obvious when it comes off.

The new carb did fine. The super-thick base gaskets didn't seal at all. The fuel bowl to throttle plate gasket was soaked with gas, so I replaced with a standard rebuild kit one instead of the fancy purple Ruggles gasket. The left side secondary POE wasn't firing, and the throttle plates were hanging up just a bit when the engine was running. They moved perfectly fine with the engine off, though. That's a puzzler.

Got a new Pertonix Ignitor III module in the mail yesterday and put the dizzy back together. Hope to get that on and see if that changes anything. I do expect to yank the intake on the 4th and see if it needs any machining. The block was decked ~25thou and the heads cut ~10thou, so taking some off the intake would not be a huge surprise - just annoying.
