Getting fancy

Whaaaaaaat?

Since I wanted to do as much rough bodywork as possible, I started looking around for ideas. First was electric locks - why not? Got an Autoloc kit that works surprisingly well. Had to extend the antenna and will need to trim the window bracket a little, but went in pretty easily. My trunk wiring setup made adding the parking light flash really easy, hence the updated wiring diagram.

Once you have electric locks you can shave the lock cylinder! And I had seen the Kindigit handles and was quite interested. So I got the bare metal set, Shaun and I worked for about 6 hours and got the driver door done. It is a bit farther forward than one might want, but works with the latch without any mods! It looks like and works very well. I'm thinking about adding some slick plastic, like a cutting board, to the latch to make it work a little easier. Since the lock cylinder is gone, there's a manual backup using a bike brake cable that routes to a Super Secret Location.

Also got a stock power trunk setup. Modified the wiring to work with the remote system and got that installed pretty quickly. I expect to add a manual backup going to the rear passenger armrest (hidden under the ash tray), then shave the trunk lock.

Shaun and I also filled all the unwanted trim holes in the body. That just leaves the big rust hole by the rear window and the damage to the quarters.

I looked around at window setups. Looks like the Nu-Relics is worth the price. The Autoloc window crank switch is *terrible* - installing it causes it to bind internally. Just a very poor design. Nu-Relic's looks better, but haven't had hands on yet. I'll keep the manual in the rear windows.

Need to loom up all the new wires, a few touch ups on body work, and - no kidding - find a body shop.

In very good news, I've put on several hundred miles and haven't seen any leaks. Finally!

Errata:

Drill a "Hydroboost" hole in the brake pedal. hah!

Chase weeping on oil cooler lines

Finish whatever lead work and sanding I'm going to do

Paint!
